Well, its not ever truly finished is it? No, but this is it finally being fully opperational and driving! What a good feeling to finally see the product of all those hours of work. It drives great and yes, it'll smoke the back tires if you ask it to. What teenager could live without that? Unfortunately, we'll be getting new tires soon which I'm told I'll have to pay for if I burn all the rubber off. Luckily, I've been told I have free reign to torture these as much as I see fit.
In any case, it burns the best in first gear but it drives the best in second. Yes, even from a stop I start the car in second, its more civil and has plenty of torque to start up any hill. As it's electric, starting from a stop is like driving an automatic. No clutch work is necessary as there's no engine to stall and there's no need to worry about which gear I start in because the motor has full torque at zero RPM. I'm not comfortable testing the car to its limit yet (range wise) because I don't have a State of Charge meter installed yet and I'm afraid of damaging my cells. However, I can give you some quarter mile times: It'll do 0-60mph in roughly 9 seconds and the quarter mile in 15. Pretty impressive for my little commuter car. I was also asked at the timing booth why they couldn't hear my car launch. Ah! Electric cars are so cool! Maybe I'm blinded by bias, but this is the way I hope I'll be driving the rest of my life.
